Discover Munnar
Hidden deep inside the hills, Munnar is the perfect travel destination is at an altitude of 1520 metres above mean Sea level. With sprawling acres of tea plantations ruling out much of the region, Munnar is a sight for sore eyes. Decked along the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats, Munnar falls under the scenic Kerala. The last time this bountiful blossom was in full bloom was during the year of 2018 when Munnar saw a rush of tourists visiting it. There are places around Munnar where you can trek to find Neelakurinji in full bloom with no one around disturbing your tryst with nature. Mt.Anaimudi of having 8841 feet height is the highest peak in the South India gives a spectacular view of the town and also a landmark for the ships approaching the Kochi port.
Munnar is situated in the deep canopy of the Idukki district of Kerala. It was one of the favourite summer colonies of the British who discovered the beauty of the place and should be given credit to Munnar’s status as a hill station. Munnar in the south Dravidian language means ‘three rivers’. It hailed its name from the confluence of the three rivers namely Nallathanni, Kundaly and Mudhirapuzha.
Munnar is famed for its vast spice and tea plantation. Over 12000 hectares of manicured, lush tea fields form alluring canvas of green carpet. Tea is daily prepared here by cultivating the tea leaves and processing them to fine powder that are packed in various cartons and packets for delivering to the market. Every day presentations are shown in the tea factories to tourists. Do not forget to take back a pack of the freshly made tea from the Tea museum. One can also hire a bicycle and explore the wild side of the mountain and enjoy the thundering waterfalls, glistening lakes and also catch sight of the rare Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiritragus hylocrius). Munnar started out to be the summer colony of the British and later went to become the symbol of tourism in Kerala. Every year Munnar records above 6 lakhs of tourists visiting the region.
